Hotel near Newgrange

Newgrange is one of three Neolithic monuments collectively known as Brú na Bóinne in Ireland’s Ancient East. The Stone Age passage tomb is older than the Great Pyramids of Giza and Stonehenge, and is arguably one of the greatest examples of European pre-historic monuments. And this is not the only special thing about this ancient temple. Newgrange, a large circular mound surrounded by 97 kerbstones attracts visitors all year round who arrive to admire the striking megalithic art on some of the kerbstones (especially the entrance stone), and to see and learn about the passage tomb’s composition and spiritual importance. Newgrange can be accessed through the Brú na Bóinne visitor centre and it is especially busy during the summer months and even more at Winter Solstice (21 December), when the sun illuminates  the passage and chamber, creating a magical and memorable experience.
